The TurboGrafx-16 (TG-16) is a home video game console developed by Hudson Soft and NEC. It was released in North America in 1989 as the Western counterpart to the PC Engine, which was launched in Japan in 1987. The TurboGrafx-16 was marketed as a 16-bit console, although it used an 8-bit CPU, and it was the first console to use CD-ROM technology with its add-on, the TurboDuo.
