J.League Greatest Eleven takes place during the 1993 football season in Japan. The game can be played in J.League mode for 1 or 2 players against the computer, or the Exhibition mode, which is similar to J.League mode, but also allows up to four human players to compete. Players can choose from ten local Japanese teams. Before a match begins, one out a few suitable formations can be picked and the team players can be assigned to particular positions. Scoring the highest points for goals throughout the tournament earns the player top ranks and the J.League Cup.
