In the distant future, humans have migrated to planet Ival, ruled over by the god Byrn. The period of peace under his rule came to an end when demons took away the source of his power - the titular Light of Indra - and Byrn falls into a deep slumber, leaving the surface of the planet infested by monsters.
Taking after Dragon Quest, this Japanese-style RPG puts you in the shoes of a young warrior on Ival starting out on a simple quest to procure a remedy for his ailing Princess. The game follows a similar gameplay loop of battling enemies for experience points and money, going back to town to buy better gears, getting stronger to fighter stronger enemies. Unlike the constantly-centered hero of Dragon Quest, Indora no Hikari adopts a fixed top-down view similar to The Legend of Zelda. Indora no Hikari is also one of the earliest Famicom games to utilize save batteries as opposed to the popular password system at the time of its release.
