Flip Hero is humanity's last hope against the mighty intergalactic warlord, Cruiser Tetron. Armed only with his wits and his blaster, Hero must defeat his nemesis if he is to save the Earth

Hero is a 2D, retro-styled action game, described by its creator as "a combination of NES, Atari2600 and C64 games but in pure black and white." The player controls Flip Hero, who is armed with a blaster that can shooter either left or right. The game is viewed from a top-down perspective, and Hero may be moved in any direction. Monsters on each screen may be shot and killed, but will respawn if Hero leaves the screen and enters again.

Hero contains five levels, each consisting of multiple rooms connected in a maze-like fashion, with most rooms containing enemies, and some containing barriers or doors that cannot be passed. Doors can be opened by defeating the boss enemy that serves as their key. Each level has a 'generator' which unlocks all barriers. Hero starts each level with five lives, and upon reaching a new level, it becomes possible to jump directly to it from the title screen. After completing all five levels, Hero gains access to Cruiser Tetron's hideout, for the final confrontation.

Beating the game unlocks bonus features, including an extra, difficult level.
