Galaga X is a mobile entry in Namco's shoot 'em up series. The gameplay is most similar to the 2008 console game Galaga Legions. The player can move in all four directions and will automatically fire at the aliens that swoop around the screen. The player also has access to a detachable auto cannon which is called a satellite. The satellite can be deployed anywhere on the screen and will fire at the aliens in the direction chosen. Some enemies have weak spots which when shot causes all aliens in the formation to explode or drops a power up which when collected gives the player a more powerful weapon.

The game contains a campaign containing five worlds and a total of 25 levels. The last level of each world ends with a boss fight. In addition to the campaign there are also a number of challenges which are unlocked by playing through the campaign.
