Darkula, a light bulb-headed vampire, has decided to bring darkness back to monsters who have forgotten their true nature after leaving under the bright lights of an amusement park.

As Darkula, you must run and jump on platforms in a fixed screen, avoiding contact with various enemies, and turn off all the lights by touching them. Some foes simply move from left to right, others fly in a wave pattern, and some chase you. The stages also include dangerous scenery, like roller coaster cars that you must jump over.

The game is divided into six stages and a bonus stage, and you have to go through these twice to reach the true ending. The emphasis is put on scoring, and you will earn a bonus if you turn off the lights in order (indicated by a shiny bulb), and if you pick up the special item that appears after a certain amount of time has elapsed on a stage.

Darkula draws inspiration from early 80s arcade games such as Mappy, Arabian and Mr. Do!'s Castle.
