Crazy Cakes is a time management game focused on baking sweet foods. There are five types of customers with varying degrees of patience and wealth: dwarf, elf, human, troll and wizard. As expected, the dwarves don't mind waiting longer, the wizards and the elves are always impatient, while the humans and the trolls are somewhere in-between. The main objective is to fulfill the customers' orders before they get frustrated from too much waiting and leave. Serving them while they're still happy is sometimes rewarded with power-ups, in addition to the usual money. Every day, the player has to make a set amount of money in order to win additional tokens. There's also a harder to reach Expert Goal that gives a 50% token bonus.

It's possible to bake five types of dessert in the game: cookies, muffins, pies, brownies and cakes. They come in five flavors: cherry, blueberry, orange, grape and lime. Every type of dessert has a different time requirement to bake. The longer it takes, the higher the cost and the price. Customers can place a standard order, specifying both the type of dessert and the flavor. In other cases, they will only ask for a certain flavor or dessert, leaving the player to complete the recipe. Double orders happen when the patrons ask for two items in one go. However, fulfilling at least one half of the order will convince the customer to wait longer. The magical flower that grows in the vase can be given to customers to increase their patience. It will grow back with time. Another way to cope with multiple orders is use the bottom trivets to store desserts baked in advance.

Happy customers can leave power-ups, which can be used later for different purposes:

• Coin Purse of Collection - automatically collects the patrons' money.
• Crystal Ball of Foresight - reveals the customer's order before they place it.
• Fireworks - increases the patience for all the patrons in the shop.
• Horn of Pastries - fills empty trivets with fresh pastries preferred by the customers.
• Hourglass of Patience - customers stop losing patience for 30 second.
• Sundown Slowdown - delays the end of the day.
• Tray of Holding - can hold up to four items.
• Trivet - an extra trivet.
