B.C. Story is an Olympics-like sports game set in the Stone Age. The story frames the game as a contest between three challengers (Sonlo, Milo, and Ballo) who compete against each other to become the tribe's next patriarch. This is triggered through the eruption of a volcano and those rules were set out by the ancestors. The game consists of ten events that can be selected freely from a map. The player competes against a computer-controlled character or a human opponent.
The sporting events include a long jump, climbing, sprint, throwing stones, breaking eggs, holding off mammoths, cutting logs, literally blowing up an animal, throwing a giant rock and more. Most of these events are stamina based, requiring the player to build up power by quickly shifting the joystick for a long period of time. This is combined with up to three buttons for actions, depending on the type of event.
